I Need Help Staying Motivated on My Diet?

What’s this week’s diet help question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: Any tips? I’m 14.

To keep me motivated I have made/done:
-collage of my fave celebs and how in shape they are
-rules for me to follow
-a diary type thing to write about how i think i did each day

what else can i do?

Answer: Okay, first of all, Miss Elly Bee, what is your BMI and why are you trying to lose weight?

If you are legitimately overweight and need to shed some pounds, talk to your mom, doctor, P.E. Teacher, coach, etc to make sure your diet plan is healthy, effective, and attainable for a young teenage girl. All of the afore-mentioned people, as well as friends, cousins, siblings, etc can help motivate you to stay on track. You can tell the people Around you something like, "hey, I’m on a diet, so keep the twinkies away from me!" also, you can assign your best friend or someone to check on your progress every day. If you keep in mind that you’ll have to report to somebody that you ate a handful of mini marshmallows, you’ll be less likely to do it, you know?

Another thing about friends is that they make for great exercise buddies :) call up your girlfriends and be like "let’s go for a walk" so you can be social AND burn calories! Dancing is good, too. Hook up your iPod when no ones watching (or even better, get your friends/sisters/cousins, etc together for an epic karaoke dance-off party).

If you’re already skinny but you want to make the runway models cry in shame, that’s really not a good idea. Being healthy is one thing, being obsessive is outright dangerous. Talk to an adult before you jump into a serious diet, diets arent something you should just throw around loosely. Your diet should include a good amount of vegetables and vitamin-rich foods. Remember, little Elly Bee that you are just fourteen years old and you still have some growing up to do, don’t waste your youth trying to look like celebs that are years and years older than you! Who are also airbrushed, heavily made-up, wearing hundreds of dollars in clothes, photoshopped to look thinner, taller, curvier, smoother, natural-er….

Good luck & peace!! <3

Need Help with a Diet! Family is Obsessed with Junkfood :(?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of diet help. Let’s take a look:

Question: So I really need to lose weight because I just recently had a diabetes scare, but my mom keeps buying all this junk food, and i live in a "redneck" household, so they think soy-milk and salads are "pussy" food, so i cant get very much healthy stuff without being ridiculed. But I have terrible will power and i REALLY need to lose alot of weight! I refuse to do the whole make-yourself-puke thing too, lol.

Also, someone give me some good healthy food options/recipes that i can try.

Answer: Don’t give into eating unhealthy junk. With you having a chance to get diabetes, you really need to get serious about being healthy or there are some horrible consequences.

Salads are nothing to be ashamed of. Try getting fruit and fresh food!! (Bananas fill you up)
Don’t eat anything with butter, grease dripping off it, or any processed foods. (sugary crap)

You, like everyone, probably eat a lot of breads, which is not what your diet should consist of.
Eat: greek yogurt (it’s good for you), fruits (any kind), veggies (except potatoes/pickles/corn).
Make your family tries eating whole wheat grains like as in bread/cereal/pasta.

If you really want to lose weight…. EXERCISE!
It’s the best thing for you. Start off with 30 crunches, or walking your dog longer, or playing a sport with your friends.

Right now, you may think you have terrible will power… but if you’re really serious about getting healthier and not developing diabetes, you have to take control of your life and make a difference now rather than later…or a month later… or a year later. Do it while you’re young, like now!

Oh and i don’t have any recipes… sorry :( my family is like yours… and i had to eat healthy things alone.

Can You Help Me out with a Diet Plan?

A diet help question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: Ok So Im only 13 and Im too embarrassed to tell my parents Im dieting because telling people Im dieting always makes me self conscious then I quit. Ok so since Im 13 I cant actually leave the house to exercise so I just run in my room in place for 30 minutes every day. And sometimes watch workout videos. But the whole food thing in my problem, what foods can I buy that don’t look to much like Im trying to diet? Oh btw Im 5′3 ( maybe 5′4 or 5′5 im really not sure ) and I weigh 155 LBS ( ha ha I feel special I used to weigh 160 ) Oh and is there anything that I should know about dieting?
Answer: If you want to start dieting I recommend you count how many calories you eat on an average day. Write down all the foods you eat normally and then replace them with foods on the list below. You want take out at least 500 calories from your daily diet. If you follow this you should start losing 1-2 pounds a week easily. It may seem slow at first, but after 2 months that’s about 15 pounds. Cut out sweets, fried foods, and sodas. Remember drinking plenty of water the start of good dieting (70-80 fl.oz. daily).

Stick with healthy foods:
-Fish
-Lean meats
-Eggs
-Nuts
-Fruits
-Veggies
-Low-fat milk

Need Help with a Diet for Hyperactive Child?

A tough diet help question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: I have a 3 year old who is extremely hyperactive and fits alot of the symptoms for adhd or maybe she’s just highly spirited. She’s not been diagnosed professionally, I have a doctors apt scheduled but can’t get in for awhile.
I am trying to get her on a diet to find out what triggers it. (mostly the rage and outbursts)
I have read about the feingold diet and a few others.
She also has a few other things that I think might be food allergy related, frequent infections, eczema etc,
Can anyone help get me started?
Answer: The #1 culprit in foods that it is thought to contribute to hyperactivity is High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), known as glucose-fructose on Canadian labels. It is a cheap sugar substitute. There are also several food colourings that you should avoid.

Just about EVERYTHING you buy has HFCS in it anymore. You’ve got a lot of work to do to find foods that contain none of these ingredients.

Read the labels and opt for all natural ingredients that you can pronounce. Remember that many additives are the vitamins and minerals that are necessary in our diet, so you need to do some research to find out what "chemicals" are OK in foods and what chemicals are [cheap] substitutes for the real thing.

But HFCS is a biggie. Make sure the label does NOT list HFCS.

Messed Up Diet Habbits… Please Help, 10 Points?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: I’m 16, 5′9" and I weigh 115 pounds, whenever I would finish eating I felt guilty because I really don’t want to gain any weight but I want to lose weight so I started trying to make myself throw up (I know it’s unhealthy)…but I couldn’t anyways, so instead I stopped eating most of the time so now I eat less then 200 calories a day, anyways I want to be healthy and eat food but I still want to lose 15 pounds so I’m not as fat because I don’t want to be able to grab stomach fat at all cuz it’s gross, so I need advice on what to eat so I can lose 15 pounds fast … And what exercises I can do (besides yoga and running/walking cuz I already do that)
Answer: Don’t hurt yourself. One thing people don’t realise is that not eating enough slows your metabolism down causing you to store everything you eat rather than burn it off. Try eating 3 peaces of white chicken breast every three hours for three days then take a day off to eat whatever you want, then start it over again. The chicken is low fat low calorie high protein food that will boost your metabolism which is what burns fat. If you do this you will loose The 15 in about a week, but if you continue you will build muscle because of the high protein especially if you are working out, and muscle is heavier than fat. Good luck and be safe, worry about your health first and the weight will follow.

Can You Help Me Get My Diet Back on Track?

What a great diet help question:

Question: The past 2 weekends, I’ve had a wedding and 3 parties. They were all at restaurants and I feel like I pigged out a little. I was 117 pounds two weeks ago, but now I’m 118. Can you help me get my diet back on track?

Here’s what I’ve had today:

Breakfast
1 slice of canteloupe

Lunch
Chicken Lo Mein—I only ate the noodles and veggies.

I’m not sure if I should make myself a turkey burger for dinner or if I should eat what my grandma’s making.

Can you make me a shopping list of things I should buy for next week’s menu?

My treadmill is broken, so I have no form of exercise.
Thanks in advance!

Answer: First off, don’t stress! Stressing only makes you that much more vulnerable to tempting non-diet food. It’s hard to stick to a diet, especially when you have special events. If you slip up on your diet once in a while, it’s okay! Just jump right back on and keep going. Above all, keep yourself healthy. Dieting isn’t about starving yourself, it’s about being sensible in cutting back. Keep eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, and lean proteins like fish and chicken. You can still have stuff like bread and pasta, just be smart about your portions sizes.

For exercise, who needs a treadmill? If you live in a place where you can go walk/run around your neighborhood or in a nearby park, go enjoy it! If not, I love exercise DVDs. I have a yoga DVD for the mornings and a Tae-Bo for the evenings. Both were super cheap, are great workouts, and I can do them in my living room.

Answer: When I diet I eat 3 meals per day and 3 fruit snacks (morning tea, afternoon tea, and after dinner).

The meals consist of this:

Porridge for breakfast
Apple for morning tea
Salad sandwich for lunch
Mandarine for arvo tea
Lean chicken (or beef, lamb, fish etc) with steamed vegies for dinner and no carbs like potato or hot chips.
Orange for supper.

I drink water and cups of tea during the day with 1 no added sugar juice for breakfast.

I walk every day either 30 mins outside or 20 mins fast on my treadmill. I aim for 2 - 2.5km per session.

The aim is to completely cut out junk food and to keep up the excercise. The weight should drip off you.

I diet on and off, just went back to this last week and lost 1kg in the week. I’m very happy :)

P90x / Diet Help!(cheerleader Body)?

Another diet help question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: Hello, I’m a cheerleader, and looking for a new and better way of conditioning and my friend just told me about p90x, but i’m not quite sure what it is, but i need to do something, is there anything better then p90x? what is p90x? & can i get it for free? is it a program i have to buy or does someone have a schedule or something i follow? also whats a good, eating diet for a nice cheer body?
oh! & another question, will p90x make my boobs smaller? i’m a C/D now & i rather not lose them,
I’m 16, whats the healthiest way to do all this?
help please!
Oh, I’m not sure if this is important but, i’m 5′1 & weigh 98-100lbs, is this healthy for me?
Answer: p90x is a recompensation (add muscle/lose fat) program that increases muscle tone by increased definition, greater muscle mass, strength, and size. the routine is 90 days long

i’ve been bulking (adding muscle, and some fat) for the past 10 months, and i’m going to start p90x in 5 days in order to shed the fat i’ve gained and continue the muscle gains (just benched 200! yay!)

you can get it for free at ThePirateBay, you’d usually have to buy it, but you don’t need to anymore, or you can copy your friends DVD and use it that way.

p90x should not significantly reduce your breast size, if anything, it’ll reduce your stomach fat, and maybe just a tad bit off your boobs, but that way, your boobs do stand out more and are generally rounder (just plain better in general), also the pushups keep your breasts lifted

the healthiest way to do it is to follow the training guide, and eat accordingly to your base metabolic rate, so do the training as it’s shown, and don’t do on a ridiculous diet (eat a bit less, but not some crazy starvation diet)

i would definitely recommend this program, just google "p90x before and after" to see what i mean

btw, i’m also 16 ;)
message me at jareen94@gmail.com if you want more info or help!

edit: 5′1 98-100 is normal, and might i add, kinda cute with C/D lol

the person below me just wants to make money off you paying for p90x
i was also offered to be a coach.

if you don’t believe me, google it
