I Need Help with My Diet!?

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: I’m in the process of losing some weight and toning my body. My exercise routine consists of running 1 mile about 5 days a week(I’m a beginner runner), and doing 42 minutes of yogalates which is yoga and Pilate’s mixed meant for toning and weight loss. I don’t have time to go to the gym because I’m in dental school earning my doctorate as a dentist which is very time consuming.

Now for my diet, I need some help. I’m recovering from an eating disorder (anorexia) so I’m used to eating very very minimal if anything at all. I’ve gained a lot of weight, A LOT of weight and I’d like to lose the healthy way and be happy with my body. I know I need a lot of protein, complex carbohydrates (since I’m a runner) and fiber. I cut out all processed sugars, also I’ve cut out pop. I need some suggestions for a diet or different foods that don’t take a long time to make or prepare, suggestions for lunches to bring to school, things like that. I’m re-learning how to eat, trying to change my lifestyle. Suggestions welcome, no rude comments.
I actually don’t eat meat, Its really not a favorite of mine. But I do eat dairy products for good fats that I need. Also, I bought some oatmeal (not the microwave kind the real grains you make on the stove, sugarless) I usually add honey because it’s a natural sweetner, and add fresh fruit, though having time for that in the morning is tough.

Answer: You need to get most of your calories from fat, not carbs and protein. It’s that simple. Exercising is a good thing, but eating lots of carbs and protein is NOT the best thing to do. Carbs and protein will give you 1/2 the calories as the same amount of fat by weight. Fat gives you sustained energy, whereas, carbs give you quick, fleeting energy and that energy is stored as heavy bulk fat. Fat metabolizes slowly, keeping you from getting hungry and provides far more energy than carbs & proteins. You also get the benefit of the fat tissue in your body telling the hypothalamus that you are NOT starving and this keeps your metabolism higher.

What you will find is that you won’t be as hungry often, your weight will be far easier to manage, and the food will taste good. You must AVOID ALL TRANS FATS and ALL VEGETABLE oils like soybean, canola, cottonseed, and corn oils. These kinds of oils are not only unhealthy from many levels, but also prevent good weight loss.

Eating lots of olive oil, palm oil, and especially coconut oils will help you greatly. Real butter (not margarines of any kind) will be a great thing to eat as well. These 18 carbon, medium chain fatty acids help your body to produce other fatty acids that will help you with your weight issues and nourish the body.

EDIT: DO NOT EAT MARGARINES of any kind. They are hydrogenated oils and typically made from soy or canola. VERY BAD NEWS garbage. BAD ADVICE to eat that. Real butter from RAW CREAM made from grass fed animals is the very best. Margarine’s cause heart disease! !

EDIT: Terrible advice to eat vegetarian or vegan. You will lose weight on that diet, but at a dear cost to your health. Just look at the vegans walking around with little fat on their bodies, sallow skin color, sunken eyes and you will realize you don’t want that. Vegan diet is just a vegetarian diet that is more radically bad. It takes about 2 years for vegans to get sick and start showing real nutritional deficiencies. Vegetarians take a little longer, but certainly have shorter life expectancies than people who eat good meat and good RAW dairy products.

Here are two books you should read for a better education on what you need to eat: "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, Ph.D. and "Seeds of Deception" by Jeffrey Smith.

good luck to you

Help! Am I Doing the Atkins Diet Right?

What a great diet help question:

Question: I read alot that you have to eat enough calories, enough fat and protein, and you must get your carbs in or else it wont work and you wont lose any weight. My resting metabolic rate is about 1300, so im eating that many. Is that enough calories? here is my menu for the day. I need help adding more calories, carbs, fat, and protein. Any ideas, would be greatly appreciated!

Breakfast: 1/2 avocado, chunk light tuna packet, .5 tbs full fat mayo, 1 hard boiled egg
Lunch: 2 cups mixed green lettuce, 1 large chicken breast sauteed in .5 tbs olive oil butter
Dinner: 1/2 avocado, chunk light tuna packet, .5 tbs full fat mayo, 1 hard boiled egg

FOOD STATS:
Calories: 978
Fat: 51g
Protein: 107g
Net carbs: 11

I NEED:
Calories: 1300 (maybe more)
Fat: 57g
Protein: 162g
Net carbs: 20 (maybe less)

10 points best answer!!!

Answer: 1300 calories will cause metabolism to shut down. Low carb does not work properly with low calories or low fat. You may still lose "weight" but it will be mostly water & the body’s own lean tissues.

When you lower carbs, you must fuel your body with dietary fats - 65% of total calories, otherwise the body will stay in glycolysis (burning sugar/glucose for fuel) & convert protein to glucose which will force the body to catabolize it’s own lean tissues (including vital organs, like the heart) for nutrition.

The body will not release fat stores unless there is more than adequate fuel calories & nutrition. When the body shuts down the metabolism, it protects fat stores & releases lean tissues which due to their high caloric needs become a burden to the system. Late stage anorexics are 50% fat & bones, life ceases when there is no lean tissues left or the heart muscle is so ravaged that it can no longer function.

I Need Some Help with My Exercise Routine and My Diet?

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: Currently, I’m trying to lose weight and tone up. I’m going to school to be a doctor so my time is very limited. I have a gym membership but by the time I finish homework It’s closed so for exercise I run a mile (I’m a beginner runner) and I also do a 42 minute video of Yogalates (yoga and Pilate’s) I do the Crunch:Super Slim down video and it’s for weight loss and toning. Anyways so all together running a mile and 42 minutes of yogalates. Usually I do this late at night. Is this a good routine especially not having much time?

My diet it’s generally good, I watch what I eat 6 days a week and sunday I eat what I want. My diet is high in protein, complex carbohydrates, fiber, fats (like dairy) and I cut out processed sugar. I don’t eat meat very much, I actually don’t enjoy it so I get my protein elsewhere, but I do eat chicken every once in a while. Am I on the right track or do I need to modify a bit?

Answer: Looks like you have EVERYTHING. Just remember this,
F.I.T.T in your workouts
Frequency of workout. Intensity of workout. Type of workout. and Time (how long you do it)
There is another variable to it too and that’s overload, workout a-lot, push yourself. and don’t forget your cool-down, and still try to observe what you eat on sunday that might be kinda getting you.
other that those small things you prob have it all

800 Calorie Diet Help?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of diet help. Let’s take a look:

Question: I know that an 800 calorie diet is unhealthy.I am 5 feet 8 inches and weight 111 pounds.I wanna lose some stubborn belly fat for my abs. This diet will be mainly composed of veggies and protein. So,how long will it take to lose 7-10 pounds using this diet?????
Answer: To lose 10 pounds you need to not eat 36,500 calories. So if you normally eat 2000 per day and go to 800, that is 1200 calories a day less and over three days you will Lose a pound or so. All other loss is water. So that is 30 days for ten pounds. This is the same as dividing 36,000 by 1200–30 days

Is Following a 1800 Calorie Diet Help Me in Losing Fat?

A diet help question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: I run 5 times a week and lift weights 2 times a week

Im also 5′6 175lbs

Answer: Yeah 1800 calories sounds reasonable if you are trying to lose weight - make sure you don’t eat less than that or your metabolism will slow down and also make sure they’re beneficial calories - eating 1800 calories of chocolate a day will make you feel rubbish and hungry and be of no benefit to you at all! Focus on lean protein and low gi carbs (anything wholemeal is generally good and sweet potato instead of normal potato), try to eat 5 small meals a day and never miss breakfast! Good luck xx

Ever Since I Was on a Diet… Help? 10points Also.?

A diet help question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: Like around 1200-1500 calories.. My legs would feel very numb(like very weak and herts when i touch them) and I would feel very tired…. what do you think this mean?
Answer: How long have you been restricting your calories? It might be due to a lack of blood circulation in your legs. Feeling tired all the time is another symptom that you may have been dieting too long. Having a "treat day" just once a week where you eat what you want, in the quantities you want (as long as you don’t eat past the point of discomfort) can help normalize your leptin levels, pump some glycogen back into your muscles, and help restore your energy.

I would also see a doctor to make sure that it’s not anything else, just in case. =)

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: and there islike 7 hours till i go to sleep and i ate all my cals.. HELP! im so hungry
Answer: Don’t STARVE yourself. Eat something healthy like a low-fat yogurt, a special-k bar, a banana or some veggies with dip. Don’t worry about it. You can’t be doing that to your body though, even ON a diet. Its only gonna be sooner or later that you’ll give up. So make a plan that will work for you. Eat more, and exercise more!

Help with My Diet Plz?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: i feel like i always fail in eating when it comes to the end of the day… for breakfast i have a banana or mango smoothie, or cereal or vegetarian nuggets… lunch i use actual food… like rice and fish or potatoes and gran burger … something healthy … snacks are alway fruit like prunes or grapes or something so… but when evening hits i just don’t kno what to eat… i am only 18 and i have little control of what food is here and things are tight so much isn”t here to eat… but i would like some suggestions for an good filling evening meal please… i will try to save money and buy the stuff i need… thanks
Answer: I’m not sure how much of a fan of salads you are but they are always great and filling!

like maybe a taco salad, amazingly delicious while still being healthy.

just cut up some lettuce, use beef or whatever of your choice, cheese, beans, tomatoes, onions, sour cream….anything really. Even just regular lettuce with light balsamic dressing.

You can look up stuff on The Food Network.com also for more suggestions.
