Whats Wrong with My Diet? Please Help Me?

Keep the diet help questions coming! I liked this one:

Question: Im a 14 year old boy and Im about 5"8 and 140 pounds. I have a gut belly lol and I want it gone soon. I run/jog 2 miles every other day. I lift weights with my bowflex on monday wednesday and friday and I eat decently healthy. What am I doing wrong? It bothers me so much because I want to have a better body and I want to be a Marine(dont try to say dont worry about that it doesnt work, Im commited to it) and its most of my motivation so I always think of how I couldnt make it with my gut belly lol. Please help me
Can you give me a possible list of what I am doing wrong and what I can do bettter?
Thank you.
Answer: It’s probably just your body at this stage of your life. It’s normal for young teen boys to be a tad pudgy, even if they’re active. Just wait until you go through a couple good growth spurts in high school, you’ll probably even out naturally.
Just stay away from snack foods and soda, get natural sugars from fruits if you’re craving something sweet. Water is best to drink, especially with as much physical activity as you do, you need to stay hydrated.

I KNOW I'm Overweight. Can Someone Help Me Get on a Good Diet?

I just love answering these diet help questions. Here’s another:

Question: Ok, I’m 12 years old. I know I’m overweight. I usually have been weighing 175-189 in the last couple years. My height is about 5.5-5.8 I know it’s around there. Can someone please help me get on a good diet? I am really cutting it down this Summer I am sick of being the only one in the school being able to do my famous milkshake dance. Although I am proud of my fat for racking me up on the popularity charts it’s pretty sad when you can shoot a pen out of your fat 10 feet. I know lot of people are reading this laughing but hey they’re the immature jerks.
Answer: Here are some tips that will help you reach your goal!
1. stock up on fruits and vegetables– those have very few calories and DO taste good!
2. Drink water instead of soda or juice.
3. Try to eat whole wheat and potatoes. Those will keep your hunger at bay and not make you crave foods. Oh! But if you DO find yourself craving foods, have a small portion of it, don’t try to avoid it completely, because the craving will only get stronger.
4. make sure to pay attention to portion sizes too. it helps if you portion it out into a bowl that way you don’t find your self eating too much at once. or even portion out your snacks a week in advance so you don’t over eat.
5. you should record what you eat in a journal. calculate the total number of calories you eat per day and determine if there is any junk you can cut out.
6. to lose weight you might want to eat around 1500-2000 calories per day. DO NOT EAT LESS THAN 1000 CALORIES PER DAY!!!!!! Eating less than 1000 calories can actually cause your body to gain weight.
7. Eating healthy low calorie meals with LOTS of exercise will help you lose weight! aerobic exercise such as running, swimming, biking, or gymnastics is a great way to loose weight as well!
8. Get motivated! If ever you find your self not wanting to get up and go exercise, tell your self to get up and do it. Motivate yourself by thinking about how good you will look/feel if you just get up and do it!
9. another motivational tip, once a week, take a day off and reward your self with something special like your favorite restaurant or something sweet like dessert!
10. DonĂ¢??t be afraid to drink tea, unsweetened tea has 0 calories and is full of antioxidants that will actually help you lose weight. There are also sweeteners such as Truvia that contain 0 calories and are good to add to tea if you like it sweet! :D

REMEMBER: to lose weight you need to have a good diet AND exercise program having only one will not do you as much good as having both! :D

this is a very easy plan to follow! as long as you stick to it! and don’t give up! :D

Good Luck!

I Want to Eat a Healthier Diet. I Try to Eat Vegetarian but Find It Difficult to Do on Some Days. Can You Help?

A diet help question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: I work hard and get home kinda late. Sometimes it just seems easier to through a piece of chicken on the grill rather than comb through a book or magazine and come up with a tasty recipe. Salads are great but I don’t want to live on them. What do you? I’ve had my fill of veggie burger. They taste great but again, I can’t live on them. Please give me your everyday quick dinner ideas.
Answer: Pasta with puttenesca (if you eat fish) is quick and simple. If you buy barilla pasta, you can make a whole box and use left overs for other meals. Just drain, rinse and stir in extra virgin olive oil so the pasta doesn’t stick together. You can make small pasta salads to go with or just be dinner instead of having a whole box of pasta as one dish. You can do the same with rice, but its not as easy as pasta.

Puttenesca (martha stewert recipe
1/4 jar of each, drained and chopped
sundried tomato
roasted red peppers
green olives
capers
garlic to taste
anchovy -paste or filets chopped
chopped or diced tomato in can not drained
fish filets like salmon or other thick fish or chicken

Simmer all in skillet and use slotted spoon to serve over pasta when fish is done.

You can make a cold pasta with this (no can tomato or fish), added extra virgin olive oil and freshly grated parma cheese. You can make it without capers or anchovy, but that adds flavor and salt.

A great cold pasta also is easy to do, but I make it with frozen veggies and fresh herbs from the garden. In a large bowl, put a bit of extra virgin, garlic, oregano, basil and whole bag of stir fry veggies. Let veggies thaw while you cook the pasta. drain the pasta, but DON"T rinse. Once water stops dripping, pour pasta into veggie bowl andgently stir. Add a bit more evooil and stir more. Continue this until the pasta is cooled and the veggies are thawed. Refridgerate and add parma cheese grated when fully cold. I use about 3/4C of evooil to a box of barilla pasta, adding slowly so the rotini gets fully coated.

Leopard Gecko Diet Care….. HELP!!!?

A tough diet help question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: Well here’s the thing i am feeding my 3 leopard geckos crickets and the man from the shop i get the crickets from said that i should feed them pinkies(new born mice) because it’s better.

SHOULD I OR SHOULD I NOT FEED IT PINKIES? PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY OR WHY NOT?

Answer: HELL NO! Leopard gecko’s staple in the wild is insects! Keep feeding gut loaded crickets, occasionally getting wax worms, meal worms, super worms, ect. Also, I suggest getting a book on leopard geckos, and only leopard geckos. If the book contains a lot of information on fat tailed geckos, don’t get it. Leopard Geckos For Dummies is a good one.

Also, pinky mice are SOMETIMES fed to leopard geckos, but only when it is under weight. The man at the pet shop told you wrong, and pet store associates are usually the WORSE source of information around. Like I said, get a book or two. :)

I Am Trying to Do a Low Carb High Protein Diet. I Need Food Ideas!!! Help!!!!?

A tough diet help question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: I am doing a low carb high protein diet, any ideas on meals i can eat. im really having trouble with finding things to eat. im trying to limit my carbs to below 60 per day. and keep my protein as high as i can get it. Please give me tips on what i can eat for breakfast lunch and dinner
Answer: GOOD carbs are not the enemy. Remember that. That being said, chicken and fish are the best sources of lean protein in the natural food world. You can also take a whey protein supplement. My best advice: buy a bunch of chicken at the beginning of the week. Get healthy sauces and seasoning. Grill the whole lot on Sunday, bag it and put it in the fridge. Now you can enjoy it all week. The fact that it is conveniently already made will keep you away from those tempting quick snacks.

Are There Any Diets That You Can Do on Your Own Without a Doctor That Help Lose Fat/weight and Tone Muscle?

Another diet help question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I know I need to cut out soda, junk food, TV dinners, fast food (which I hardly eat anyway), pizza (as it is too greasy). Also is excercising seven days a week for one hour helpful in losing weight or should I try to cut down the days but make the time for excercising longer? I want to get down to 124.4 lbs. and at the moment I am 141 lbs. Also the women in my family are petite. Does that play a factor in me losing weight/fat on my stomach? I want to try to eat healthy, lose weight and try to tone my muscles in my stomach.
Answer: well you shouldent stay to long exercising your muscles for longer than an hour cause it will result in over training and you will get weaker my advice is when you workout do weight training and cardio cause both are great at burning calories which will enable you to lose weight faster but dont do cardio on a weightlifting day cause it will leave you tired and you wont have enough energy to lift weights and you shouldnt be able to do cardio after also cause you should be tired from working hard lifting. so split it up cardio on non weight lifting days. you should do 13-15 rep range which is optimal for toning also diets you should eat healthier and cut the junk food and enjoy the process cause the reward is well worth it

Is This Diet Plan Enough to Lose Some Weight? Should I Do More Exercise? PLEASE HELP!!?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of diet help. Let’s take a look:

Question: My workout plan to lose between 15 - 25 lbs by October, or maybe a little later is this:

After school/before dinner I have two options that I do:

1. This may sound silly, but my sibling and I like to pretend we’re performing on stage like a band or something, and we just sing along to songs, but I do alot of running, jumping and dancing. It;s usually about an hour to an hour and 20 mins we do that, and I don’t jump and stuff the whole time, I gotta catch my breath a little and all…….so it’s probably around 30 - 45 minutes of that…..(it’s fun so I’m more likely to do it and not get booored!!)

2. 45 minutes of cardio……….i usually do some on my bike and treadmill, mixing it up daily…….i may also start doing intense DDR on some days too

And then after dinner I do 20 minutes of strength training, and either 20 minutes of more cardio exercises or 20 minutes of dancing.

I already have a good diet plan worked out. So, is this enough exercise/cardio to lose some weight? And in the very long run, burn all my fat and tone my body?

Answer: Wow, that sounds like a great plan.
If you have to catch your breath, and rest for a moment or two, it’s working.
Depending on your diet, you should be losing weight in no time.

Just remember to stay hydrated; drink alot of water.
Make sure you’re consuming LESS calories/carbohydrates/fat than you’re burning.

How Do I Go on a Low Carb Diet? Very Confused, Please Help!?

A diet help question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: I can’t seem to find any diet plans on the web? All’s I am understanding is that I can eat only meat and as much meat as I want all day long?????? That seems like you would gain weight? I’m confused on what all food I could eat, and I also read that I should eat no more then 20 carbs a day?
I’m a 20, and I weigh 175 pounds and I am 5 foot 5
I no the difference between calories and carbs?? I’m not stupid. I just want a sample low carb diet plan
Answer: You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)

Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.

The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it’s own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won’t release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it’s fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes about 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.

Carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice, beans) trigger insulin (the ONLY fat storage hormone). Protein triggers the fat burning hormone glucagon.

Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want "something" - have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese - pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad - steaks - a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise.

Ground flax seed (4 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 min for daily fiber needs.

As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn’t gain weight, no matter the calories because insulin, the fat storage hormone is not activated. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.

I am adamantly opposed to low calorie dieting because most people lose a good portion of lean tissue (including vital organs like the heart) along with fat stores. There is no nutrition in fat stores, only energy. Most people get impatient and lower their calories and increase their exercise to a point where they lose so much lean tissue that when they return to what was maintenance level eating they are now accumulating more fat stores because their caloric needs have dropped due to the loss of this tissue as well as their metabolism slowing down to work more efficiently on fewer calories & it becomes a vicious cycle of dieting and more loss (including vital organs like the heart). This stress to the vital organs cannot be healthy.
