Why? Carbs supply you with long term energy that will keep you going during your workouts; fruits and veggies contain a lot of great vitamins and minerals that will keep you going; protein will help keep your muscles healthy
What foods not to eat: Sugars (candy, ice cream, sweets), junk foods (potato chips, greasy foods, saturated fats), and pop, beer and drugs.
Why? Sugars are simple carbs that you will use and then your body will crash (sluggishness, tiredness, ect.); the bad chemicals and oils in them will not help your internal digestion and they make your body feel slow and unhealthy; and the last three are due mainly with reaction times (how fast you get off the block and how you recover), and your shouldn’t do them anyway if you are trying to get healthy. They will make you feel super slow.
Body hair: Normally swimmers don’t shave their heads, legs, and arms until they get to their final meet (conference, sectionals, state).
Suit: Speedos are the normal competing suits, but jammers (knee length suits) are also really popular.
Strokes: Start off with freestyle, and have a coach or trainer help you with the specifics of backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke. They are really easy to mess up and do wrong without coaching, so make sure you have help getting the technique right. Beginning swimmers normally start in free and work their way up to back, fly and breast.
A good site for stroke help is this one: http://ezinearticles.com/?Swimming—The-Four-Strokes&id=128364. Looking up the strokes on Youtube will also help you a lot too.
Good Luck!
A diet help question that should definitely interest you all this week
Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 30 minutes on bike(like everyday)
30 to 40 minutes on bowflex for strength training.
After the bowlfex I do as many push ups and curls with dumbells I feel I can do.
Im also going to start running when the weather gets better.
Now heres my diet.
I eat healthy most of the time, I try to only eat lean meats, heres my basic day.
I dont eat breakfast because I dont have time in the morning.
Lunch(school) - Half a tuna sandwhich and small juice(sometimes ice tea)
Snack - Yoplait fat free yogurt, bananas or pears or apples(mostly bananas)
Dinner - Usually baked chicken breast or steak( I dont like veggies I cant stand the taste of lettuce or anything besides coliflower so I dont know what to have as a side)
I am trying to lose excess fat on my stomache and arms
Heres my actually questions.
1) Does my workout seem pretty good?
2) I need some help with my diet, please list other healthy foods and veggies I can eat as sides with dinner that are good.
3) If I stick to this and start eating even better should I lose that excess fat pretty soon?
4) Like I said Im going to start running, what should I wear and where could I buy the clothes( nothing to expensive please)
Thank You
And also what to eat after workout
First thing I would say about your diet is that you need to eat more…. with vegs and fruit you just need to keep trying stuff until you find what you like.
At your age growth and puberty will probably have more of an effect on your body than anything you do. Which is why it is so vital you get a good balanced diet that contains enough calories. I remember being 12 and my body was pretty much flat and smooth, and by the time I was 14/15 I had pecs and a six-pack and I hadn’t changed anything.
If you want to start running then why don’t you join the track/athletics team at your school, this will mean you can ask your coach about good places to get clothes, good things to eat and good exercises to do. He can also make sure that you are eating enough… cos again I’m not sure that you are!!
Remember: you NEED a BALANCED diet, especially at your age, this is so so so important and people forget it!! Cutting down on saturated fats is good, but if you eliminated fats from your diet, you’d die!
You are still growing, so your body shape and composition will keep changing and you will get a lot stronger, as long as you have a BALANCED DIET that gives you enough CALORIES.
The very fact that you are thinking about your fitness and diet at this age is good, just don’t go overboard, as this might make you yo-yo between extremes, and overall be unhealthy.
You need more advice than I can give without meeting you, go talk to a nutritionist, sports coach, personal trainer or even a doctor, they will best be able to advise you on what’s right for you. Remember the most important thing is that you are healthy, not that you look good, if you stay healthy eventually you will look good as well.
Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:
